Zaanse Schans – How to Get There

The Zaanse Schans is easy to reach, coming directly from Amsterdam or Schiphol.

If you are visiting on a summer or long weekend, I recommend using public transportation. It is easy to get to via bus or train, and you can avoid the parking headaches caused by the limited parking spaces.

Planning your trip with Public Transporation

When planning to visit the Zaanse Schans via public transportation, you can use the public transportation planner. This planner lets you put in your starting and ending points. It will provide you with the following available travel options. You will also receive the expected cost for the trip.

How to get to the Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam by Bus

Catch bus R-Net 391 from Amsterdam Metrostop Noorderpark. This bus runs regularly and directly connects to the Zaanse Schaans, stopping close to the parking lot.

The bus ride takes approximately 40 minutes.

The cost as of 2024 was 4.71€ for a one-way trip with an OV chip card (public transportation card).

Zaanse Schans

From Amsterdam by Train

The train from Amsterdam Central to Zaanse Schans train station is the Sprinter to Uitgeest. The train usually takes approximately 17 minutes. As of 2023, it was 3.70€ for a one-way trip with an ov chip card (public transportation card).

Walking Route from Train Station to the Zaanse Schans

The Zaandijk—Zaanse Schans Train Station is not close to Zaanse Schans itself. The walk takes approximately 20 minutes and covers 1.4km.

Coming by Car

When travelling to the Zaanse Schans by car, you want to ensure you choose the correct parking lot. There is a large area for visitors and a smaller area for residents. Picking the wrong parking spot can cause issues, as the area is busy and has limited room for turning around.

The Correct Visitor Parking Address is Schansend 7 in Zaandam. It is right off the roundabout and is paid parking.

From Schiphol Airport by Train

It is not possible to travel directly from Schiphol to the Zaanse Schans. You will need to make a switch at Sloterdijk Station.

The average travel time, including your switch, will be 25 to 30 minutes. The cost as of 2023 was 5.90€ for a one-way trip with an Ov chip card (public transportation card).

Remember to plan your transportation with this handy public transportation planner.
